You should receive an admission letter and this will detail the time to attend the hospital. You should contact the ward that you are being admitted to prior to leaving home to check that there is a bed available.

Each ward has slightly different criteria for parents staying by the bedside. Please check with the Nurse in charge prior to your admission to hospital.

We have an open visiting policy for the paediatric wards. However we do have a limited amount of space so we ask that you have no more than 2/3 visitors at the bed space at any one time. On our Adolescent Unit many of the young people follow a structured timetable so please check with the Nurse in charge about the core visiting hours. We operate a strict policy of not permitting unaccompanied young people under the age of 16 years onto the ward.

Each ward area has a playroom or activity room which you will be able to use. There are play specialist(s) or an activities co-ordinator who provide different activities for your child whilst in hospital.

Yes you are able to bring food into hospital with you. There is a refrigerator available in the beverage bay of each ward. You will be asked to label your food clearly with a name and a date. Any food that is not labelled will be disposed of.

Yes, you can bring in electrical hand held devices. However the hospital is not able to take any responsibility for these items.
Ward sister Tracey says:
No – our cubicle capacity on all floors is very limited. The cubicles are prioritised for children and young people who have an infection and therefore cannot be nursed in the open bays on the ward. Each patient in a cubicle is reviewed on a regular basis to establish if a cubicle is still required. If a cubicle is no longer required the nurse will discuss moving your child into a bed in the bay out in the main ward area.
